So far, my main themes surround the cycle of creating art. Personally, I get motivated in more of a "do it or don't" sort of way; I generally wait until I have an idea to start creating; unless of course, I've had some booze. This is a bit of a self-destructive cycle, and that is sort of the idea I want to capilate on.

The one word I want to focus on is "self-destructive". This has been partially inspired by the idea of the tortured artist, as most artists are known for their legacy and the works they create when their life is full of strife, divorce, drinking, drugs, or infamy.

  1. it's going to be interesting to see your art piece about creating art pieces. I think you have a lot of content to work with but I'm not sure what approach you'll take in combining them. Chaotic? Dark?

  2. One route your could take is capturing yourself, and deconstructing yourself into different pieces and sections to really show the darkness within this behavior. You could use a lot of different blending modes with this too.

And maybe the pieces start to fall apart in some place, but in others they seem to work and coexist as a whole unit. This could be a good contrast between destructive behaviors and the good it can bring sometimes to creatives.

  3. Hey Lane,

This is a very interesting concept. It feels as if its a personal glimpse into your life. Since you are focusing on self-destructive behavior, maybe you could present this concept in a way of thinking in which' there is a light at the end of the tunnel'. Like- right now really sucks, but there will be something better foreseen in the future.

Maybe you could incorporate other forms of self-destructive behavior to get the point across?

  4. I like what Maya said about your theme possibly being chaos. I feel like it's something that a lot of your images lean into and then you could go really abstract with it. It'll be interesting to see where you take this and what you end up making!

  5. I like Yesenie's idea of capturing yourself and showing the destructive cycle through distorting and deconstructing your own image. If you go that route, you could overlay some of the images you have in your contact sheets. I also like the theme of chaos and how destructive tendencies lead to a chaotic lifestyle or pattern.
